Wrestler Margarito Angana Jr. Failed to Defend SEAG Title, Settled for Silver

PHILIPPINES UPDATED. Two-time and defending Southeast Asian Games champion Margarito Angana Jr. failed to defend his title today, as he bowed down to Vietnam’s Dang Tien Doi, and settled for the silver medal at the 27th Southeast Asian Games in N.I.S (1), Yangon, Myanmar.

With only five entries in the Greco-Roman Men’s 55kg category, the event was played in a round-robin format.

Angana Jr. faced Dang Tien Doi in his first match, where he bowed down to the Vietnamese wrestler, 7-4.

His second match against Kritsada Kongsrichai of Thailand, he easily beaten the Thai by fall in the first round, 7-3.

Hoping to defend his title, Angana Jr. took little time defeating his third opponent, Suparmanto of Indonesia, where he again won by fall in just 24 seconds, 3-0.

Angana Jr. and Dang Tien Doi of Vietnam ended up tied in the classification points, but since Doi beat Angana, Doi won the gold medal, and Angana Jr. settled for the silver.

In the Greco-Roman men’s 60kg, Noel Norada was overpowered Ritisak Pravan of Thailand who won their quarterfinal match by superiority (7-0).

Norada then faced Vietnam’s Pham Sy Hue for the bronze medal match, but lost by points, 3-0, to the Vietnamese wrestler.

In tomorrow’s action, defending champion and this year’s flag bearer Jason Balabal wrestles in the Greco-Roman 84 kg. category, eyeing to defend his title.
