Hosts Myanmar Leading SEA Games Medal Tally

MYANMAR UPDATED. Myanmar leads the medal tally at the 27th Southeast Asian Games, after a weekend of domination in several sports in the first two days of competition.

In soccer, Myanmar's national team beat Cambodia 3-0 in the opening game of Group B on Saturday evening.

An overwhelming home crowd at Yangon's Thuwunna Stadium saw Kyaw Ko Ko dominate for Myanmar, heading in a goal in the 35th minute, and scoring again in the 47th.


The result puts Myanmar in first place ahead of Thailand, who beat East Timor 3-1.

Myanmar will take on East Timor, while Indonesia will play Cambodia on Monday in the second match of the group stage.

In Sunday's competition, wushu men duilian double Htet Han Kyaw and Sein Thiha Aung won gold, ahead of Malaysia's Mun Hua Ho, Weng Son Wong and Yang Lee.

In the chinlone, Myanmar and Thailand are through to the gold medal match.

Indonesia has dominated water polo, with a 16 to 2 win over Malaysia in the day's first match, after beating Myanmar 30 to 1 on Saturday.

Myanmar is at the top of the medal board with eight gold, two silver and three bronze for a total of 13 points. Malaysia is next, with two gold, four silver and eight bronze, totalling 14 points.

The 2013 SEA Games run from December 11 to 22. It is the third time Myanmar has hosted the Games in the history of the competition.
