Thrills and Spills in Singapore

Singapore Tourism Board

If your idea of a fun holiday involves getting an endorphin fix, you’re in the right place. There is a whole range of activities in Singapore that will send your pulse racing and heart thumping. Be it action-packed sports or exciting rides, here are a few of the best.

Those game for outdoor action should go for Forest Adventure, which will test your agility, strength and sense of balance. Set in the lush surrounds of Bedok Reservoir Park, the treetop course features 50 obstacles including bridges, trapezes and zip lines that send you across the beautiful waters of the reservoir.

Self-confessed adrenaline junkies will love the MegaZip Adventure Park, which brings together four different outdoor challenges that’ll push physical limits and help anyone conquer a fear of heights.

At 75 metres high and 450 metres long, the zip lines of MegaZip will take you from the jungle canopy of Imbiah Hill to the white sands of Fox Finish Point. At ClimbMax, you navigate a tricky high rope adventure course through 15-metre-tall eucalyptus trees.

Or you can take the plunge with ParaJump, which replicates a free-fall parachute jump from 15 metres above ground.

NorthFace pits you against a 16-metre wall, one of the highest in Singapore, with three different routes to the top.

A different sort of physical test awaits you at Clarke Quay, where you’d find the G-MAX Reverse Bungy and GX-5 Extreme Swing by Frontier Sports. Not for the faint-hearted or the weak-stomached, the two rides will send your blood rushing to your head.

The G-MAX Reverse Bungy works like a slingshot, launching participants sitting in a ‘cage’ 60 metres in the air at 200km/h, after which the “cage” bounces and spins wildly around in mid-air.

The GX-5 Extreme Swing propels people across the waters of the Singapore River in a 70-metre arc, reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h.

The high speeds and free fall are bound to make you scream out of sheer exhilaration. Feel the need for speed? You can indulge in your Formula 1 dreams and blaze a trail in a go-kart at Kartright Speedway, where go-karts can reach maximum speeds of 100 km/h. See how you’ll fare on the facility’s 700-metre circuit that’s filled with tricky twists and turns.

If you prefer something a little less technically challenging, try Skyline Luge Sentosa.

There, you take control of a three-wheeled cart that’s a cross between a go-kart and a toboggan. Zoom down the 650-metre Jungle Trail or 688-metre Dragon Trail, both featuring hairpin corners and exciting slopes. After each Luge ride, you can board the Skyride, a chairlift that gives you a bird’s eye view of Sentosa and the city skyline.

Movie buffs and closet daredevils can easily spend one whole day at movie theme park Universal Studios Singapore in Sentosa, where blockbusters come to life. Don’t miss the world’s tallest duelling rollercoasters, Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN® vs CYLON®—you’ll experience heart-stopping moments when they race past each other in mid-air near-collisions.

Besides many exhilarating high-speed rides here, there are also more relaxing attractions such as stage shows and parades, should you need to catch your breath in between.

With things heating up quickly (especially with Singapore’s sunny climate), you can head to the water for even more thrills.

Ski360 CableskiparkIf you’ve always wanted to try board sports such as wakeboarding, water-skiing and surfing, you’ll be pleased that you can do so in Singapore without breaking the bank.

Slalom and trick ski to your heart’s content at SKI360° Cable-Ski Park, or surf like a Californian pro at Wave House Sentosa, where you can carve turns on waves as high as three metres.

For a splashing good time, check out Wild Wild Wet. Voted best overall water theme park in 2012 by Time Out Singapore, it offers different water-based rides for all ages.

Brave the rapids in Southeast Asia’s first raft ride Ular-Lah, which simulates a white-water rafting experience, or try ‘skateboarding’ through the Slide Up—you’ll plunge down a four-storey ramp on a raft, accelerating until you fly above the opposite end of the ramp.

More fun and excitement await you at Adventure Cove Waterpark™ in Resorts World™ Sentosa. There, you can have close encounters with marine life such as hundreds of stingrays in the Ray Bay, and get wet and wild on rides like Southeast Asia’s first hydro-magnetic coaster Riptide Rocket. You can also challenge your friends to the Dueling Racer, and speed down a steep slope to the finish line on a racing mat.

After hitting the forests, road and water, why not take to the skies? Experience the thrill of free fall without the risk (and hefty price tag) by skydiving indoors at iFly Singapore.

The world’s first and largest themed wind tunnel allows you to feel the rush of the wind in your face; you can even learn how to execute acrobatic movements in the air while you’re at it.

For a different sort of “skyhigh” experience, test your nerves by being a pilot for a day. At Flight Experience™, you get to captain a Boeing 737-800, while you take control of an Airbus A320 at SG Flight Simulations.

With 180-degree visual systems projecting photorealistic scenarios, these flight simulators, which are replicas of real cockpits, offer a fully immersive and highly realistic experience.

Feel the adrenaline rush as you navigate through challenging weather conditions like storms and heavy turbulence, or manage an in-flight emergency; nothing can compare to the heady sense of achievement (and giddy relief) you get from overcoming the odds and landing the plane safely.

With so many great ways to get your dose of excitement, you’re bound to have a blast in Singapore. So what are you waiting for?
