MYANMAR UPDATED. Myanmar’s women added yet another gold medal to their tally in Chinlone, winning the non-repetition secondary level with a 157-101 besting of Thailand on Monday.

Laos and Cambodia won the bronzes yesterday.

The men’s team equaled the feat, taking gold with a 196-121 win over Thailand, who were again left with silver.

Laos and Cambodia sealed bronzes Sunday.

In wrestling, May Thazin Phoo (MYA) won gold over Chea Sreymeas (CAM), silver, and Phnith Soumaly (LAO) took the bronze in women’s 67kg freestyle at NIS (1) in Yangon.

Singapore took another step toward defending its SEA Games water polo title with an 8-5 win over top rival Indonesia at Zeyarthiri Swimming Pool on Monday.

Singapore held a single-point lead through three quarters before holding Indonesia to single goal in the fourth quarter and scoring three themselves.

The win puts Singapore atop the table after three matches and virtually guaranteed the gold medal. Their opponent Tuesday is Myanmar, who are yet to win a match.

In the day’s second match Malaysia beat Myanmar 28-11 in the highest scoring affair so far.

Malaysia popped for 10 goals in the first quarter while holding Myanmar to just two, but Malaysia managed only four goals to Myanmar’s three in the second before a third-quarter burst of nine markers to Myanmar’s two. The match wrapped with Malaysia scoring five goals in the fourth, Myanmar nearly matching the performance with four goals.

In women’s basketball Philippines won over Malaysia 65-59 in a see-saw match that had Philippines winning the first quarter 19-6, losing the second 17-9, winning the third 19-15 and hanging on for the win even though Malaysia won the fourth quarter 21-18.

In men’s action, Malaysia ran over Cambodia 73-58 despite trailing 11-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Malaysian win was essentially sealed with a 28-17 run in the second quarter and they finished the games with 17-13 and 21-17 final quarters.

In the next game, Singapore held Philippines close during the first half, but were outscored 31-25 in the third quarter and 24-17 in the fourth, going down 88-75 at fulltime.

In the day’s last match, Indonesia romped past Myanmar 83-40.

In men’s futsal in Group A round-robin play Thailand stretched a9-2 halftime lead to 12-3 in the second for a decisive win over Laos.

In men’s football in Yangon, Indonesia managed a single second-half goal, but it was enough to edge past Cambodia 1-0 in the day’s early game.

In the later tilt, Myanmar came out a 3-1 winner over Timor-Leste, but the game was much closer than the score-line might suggest.

Tied at 1 after a riveting first half, a foolish Timor-Leste penalty in the second half put Myanmar up 2-1 and knocked Timor-Leste on its heels. Myanmar quickly sealed the match with a third goal.
