Myanmar to Provide Insurance for Athletes During SEA Games

Myanmar will provide free accident insurance for national participants during the 2013 South East Asia Games (SEA Games) to be hosted in Nay Pyi Taw in December.

The Ministry of Sports will provide Ks 5,000 per participant free of charge, according to the meeting held at Myanmar Insurance head office yesterday.
"The 27th SEA Games will be held for the first time in Myanmar in 44 years time. We intend to let the world know Myanmar insures its athletes. Only selected players and reserves are included in the list," said Deputy Minister Maung Maung Thein.

Foreign participants can cover their insurance with US$100 for each person and the insurance companies agreed to pay a maximum of US$50,000 for sport accidents, depending on the injury.

Insurance companies have agreed to pay Ks 5 million for an accidental death and the insurance will be in effect between November 1 and December 23, for the duration of the SEA Games.

The original sport insurance cost Ks 25,000 and maximum cost of the insurance is Ks 5 million for a year.
