Singapore Sends SGD 200,000, Medical Team to Help Yolanda Survivors

SINGAPORE FOR PHILIPPINES.
The Singapore Government has sent SGD200,000 (around P6.9 million) in aid to victims of super typhoon Yolanda through the Singapore Red Cross (SRC).

According to a statement sent by Daniel Wang, deputy chief of mission at the Singaporean Embassy in Manila, the money will be used as seed money by the SRC.

The SRC will use the money, up from SGD50,000 pledged on Monday, to start a public appeal for donations for typhoon victims.

Money from the fundraising drive will be used to provide clean water, medical and health services, shelter, blankets, mosquito nets, and blankets to typhoon survivors, Wang said.

The Singapore Red Cross is also sending a medical team to Tacloban City to help with relief operations, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a separate statement

"As a close friend and fellow ASEAN member state, Singapore stands by the Philippines during this difficult time," it said.

The ministry added three Singaporeans--Eileen Heng, Alyssa Chee, and Vanessa Chong--who could not be reached after the typhoon, have arrived in Manila and will be reunited with their families as soon as possible.
