SEA Games: Experience Will Pot Medals for Snooker Team

MALAYSIA UPDATED. The national snooker and billiards squad will be banking on experience to delivers the medals at next month’s Myanmar SEA Games.

The Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation (MSBF) have selected six experienced cueists – Ibrahim Amir, Tan Kah Thiam, Moh Keen Ho, Thor Chuan Leong, Klaudia Djajalie and Suhana Dewi Sabtu – for the biennial Games.

MSBF president Melvin Chia said their build-up to the Games was affected by the association’s one-year suspension by the Sports Commissioner’s Office (SCO).

“The suspension has deprived the players of competitions and training. The players only competed in one tournament – the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea, in June. It’s just not enough to prepare for the Games. As such, our target is just one gold medal.

“We will also be banking on the luck of the draw to avoid favourites Thailand in the snooker events and the Philippines in the pool events. A good draw will be a big help for us to reach our target,” added Melvin.

At the last Games in Indonesia in 2011, Malaysia won a gold through the snooker doubles pair of Thor Chuan Leong and veteran Sam Cheong.
