Myanmar will provide free
accident insurance for national participants during the 2013 South East
Asia Games (SEA Games) to be hosted in Nay Pyi Taw in December.
The Ministry of Sports will provide Ks
5,000 per participant free of charge, according to the meeting held at
Myanmar Insurance head office yesterday.
"The 27th SEA Games will be held for the
first time in Myanmar in 44 years time. We intend to let the world know
Myanmar insures its athletes. Only selected players and reserves are
included in the list," said Deputy Minister Maung Maung Thein.
Foreign participants can cover their
insurance with US$100 for each person and the insurance companies agreed
to pay a maximum of US$50,000 for sport accidents, depending on the
injury.
Insurance companies have agreed to pay
Ks 5 million for an accidental death and the insurance will be in effect
between November 1 and December 23, for the duration of the SEA Games.
The original sport insurance cost Ks 25,000 and maximum cost of the insurance is Ks 5 million for a year.
